The daily average of covid-19 deaths in the past seven days in Brazil fell below 1,000 on Saturday for the first time in more than seven months, thanks to advances in vaccination.
With 910 new deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, the weekly average reaches 989 daily deaths. This figure had not fallen below the 1,000 threshold since January 20, when 981 were recorded at the start of a second wave of pandemic in Brazil which was particularly deadly.
In addition, according to official figures released this Saturday by the government, Brazil recorded 37,582 new cases of coronavirus on the last day of July and the lowest daily weekly average of infections of the year.
Since the first contagion on February 26, 2020, and since the first death on March 12 of the same year, both in São Paulo, the country now has 19,917,855 confirmed cases of covid-19 and a total of 556,370 deaths.
The Ministry of Health, in its latest epidemiological bulletin, indicated that between Friday and Saturday there was a decrease in the number of infected people (-8.12%) and a reduction in the number of daily deaths (-5, 50%) compared to the previous 24 hours.
According to the report, In the country of more than 210 million inhabitants, 18,619,542 patients of the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 have been recovered, representing 93.5% of the total infected. Another 741,943 patients are under medical supervision in hospitals or in their residences after having tested positive in clinical tests.
Brazil, one of the three countries in the world most affected by the pandemic in absolute numbers along with the United States and India, records a mortality rate of 265 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants and an incidence of 9,478 infected persons in the same proportion.
According to the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass), the average number of cases last week fell to 35,332 daily contaminations, its lowest level of the year and which confirms the slowing of the health emergency.
The state of São Paulo, the most populous in the country with 46 million inhabitants and located in the southeast region, continues to be the one with the most confirmed cases (4,057,868) and deaths (138,996 ).
The country has applied 141.7 million vaccines, of which 100.5 million provided in the first dose and 41.2 million in the second or single. According to the total population, the country succeeded in vaccinating 19.6% of its inhabitants with two doses or with a single application.
