Covid-19 | With which variants were the vaccinees infected and how many of them died

A technical report released by the Nation’s Ministry of Health revealed with which variants of Covid-19 have been infected by vaccinated people and how many of them died. One third of those infected have been vaccinated and Manaus variant It is the one that produced the most infections and deaths between vaccinated and unvaccinated.

The 19-page text analyzes the 3,632 sequenced samples of people with a positive Covid test, carried out between January 1 and August 9 of this year, by the Malbran Institute and by various laboratories of the PAIS Consortium. In this way, the study makes it possible, among other things, to determine which variants penetrate the most among the immune people and the severity of the cases.

Likewise, five cases of people residing in the city of Buenos Aires with the delta variant coronavirus, without being able to establish an epidemiological link with any traveler, out of a total of 130 cases of this variant in the country, until August 13.

Most contagious variants

The samples were sequenced taking as a parameter monitoring in travelers, in unusual severe cases, vaccinated people and regular monitoring of circulating variants.

From this it was determined that “a total of 1433 cases analyzed by genomic sequencing with a history of vaccination for SARS-CoV-2 were recorded: 708 cases after the application of the first dose of vaccine and 725 cases after application of the second dose. “.

Regarding this aspect, in the graphs it can be seen that a distinction is made between those who were more than 21 days after the first dose or those who took the full regimen, versus those who were in the period of less than three weeks. after the first request.

However, in the 535 cases considered immune (one dose with more than three weeks of time before contagion), a 58.7% were infected with the gamma variant (Manaus), 24.7% with the lambda variant (Andean), 11% alpha (UK), the rest to other low-surveillance or low-risk variants.

In the case of people with a complete vaccination schedule, out of a total of 639 infected: 58.5% were infected with the gamma variant (Manaus), 23% by the lambda variant (Andina), 7% by alpha (United Kingdom ), the remaining 11.5% are in supervised or low-risk variants.

On the other hand, the study also details how many of those vaccinated people died after contracting each of the variants. “Out of the total of 1433 cases with genomic sequencing and vaccination history for SARS-CoV-2, they were registered in the National Health Surveillance System. 144 deaths: 16 cases in unvaccinated people, 94 in vaccinated people (one dose and three weeks delay) and 34 cases with a complete vaccination schedule ”, explains the text.

As for those infected with alpha, 7 people with one dose died and only one with a full regimen died. With the gamma variant, there were 10 deaths without being vaccinated, 60 those who had not completed the diagram and 25 with a complete diagram. In addition, in the case of lambda, 3 died without having been vaccinated, 23 those who had one dose and 8 those who had both doses.

Meanwhile, regarding the evolution of photos of people infected with the variants of the total sequenced cases, it was recorded 333 with severe course and 2856 cases without criteria of seriousness. Regarding the distribution of priority variants, in severe cases 215 (64.6%) correspond to the gamma variant, 23 (7%) to the alpha variant and 63 (19%) severe cases to the lambda. Meanwhile, in non-severe cases, 1638 (57.4%) correspond to the Gamma variant, 249 (9%) to alpha and 585 (20.5%) to lambda.

Differences by sex and age

On the other hand, the report made it possible to specify the distribution by sex and age groups of incidence of each of the variants detected in Argentina. “1668 cases were analyzed in women and 1511 in men. In women, 1087 cases (65.2%) belong to priority variants and 581 cases (34.8%) to non-priority variants. Concerning men, in 1032 (68.3%) cases of priority variants are detected and in 479 (31.7%) of non-priority variants ”, indicates the document.

In this sense, it has been observed that “the absolute frequency of priority variants in children under 20 is approximately homogeneous in both sexes, being a little higher in men”.
