RICHMOND — Washington Redskins rookie tackle Daron Payne will miss two to three weeks due to an ankle injury. Payne has had his left ankle put into practice on Friday and will be in a boot on foot for a week, said coach Jay Gruden

Washington drafted Payne with the 13th pick in April and inserted it as his first attacking nose in the spring. The teammates raved about his presence in the middle, even during trials without leggings. Payne has been difficult to move for offensive linemen and has stood out with his strength. Gruden said that he does not think that will put Payne back into play, and he was not worried about his availability for the start of the season.
