De La Quiaca: the president sacked Evo Morales, who returns to Bolivia – telam

President Alberto Fernández today greeted former President Evo Morales and his former vice-president, Álvaro García Linera, with a hug after crossing the bridge that connects Argentina to Bolivia.

“We do not want a country for one, but a country for all,” the president said in a message from the place, and said: “We are the Great Homeland that wants justice.”

“People are not mistaken and they have gone to the polls to justify the project that Evo (Morales) represents,” said Fernández, referring to the elections which again brought the Movement towards Socialism (MAS) for the presidency.

The president celebrated his presence at La Quiaca to “ensure that Evo Morales returns to his home country, from which he should never have left, nor be mistreated as he was”. He ended his message with a “Long live Bolivia, Long live Argentina and Long live Latin America”, after expressing that “it was an honor” to have had him in the country.

Previously, Fernández and his entourage had breakfast at the La Quiaca tourist hotel with Morales, who will today end his one-year exile on his return to his country after the investiture, this Sunday, of the president Luis Arce, belonging to his. political party.

Morales is expected to start a two-day caravan before noon to arrive next Wednesday in the tropic of Cochabamba, his homeland, a year after being forced to resign as president of his country.

“Today is an important day in my life, returning to my country that I love so much fills me with joy,” the former Bolivian president said on his Twitter account.

Fernández arrived in this city in northern Argentina last night, after attending the inauguration of Arce, and said that “The most terrible thing that has happened in the past four years has been the disintegration of Latin America”.

The president thanked the inhabitants of La Quiaca who, “despite the weather”, waited “so long” for his arrival to greet him and renewed his message that, despite the coronavirus pandemic, the country “will leave” and assured that this moment “draws closer and closer”.

“In the meantime, we have to take care of ourselves and be respectful of the disease, which is very perverse,” Fernández asked.

Sheathed in a poncho and wearing a chin strap, the president walked over to greet the people – Adela, a 104-year-old neighbor, gave the gift – who were awaiting his arrival.

Regarding the caravan that Morales will undertake, he said: “He will return home, where he should never have gone. We are many Argentines who want and value what we want”.

Fernández arrived at the “Guillermo Snopek” air base on Saturday at 6 pm, 10 kilometers from the border town of La Quiaca, and was received by the mayor Blas Gallardo.

He was accompanied by Foreign Minister Felipe Solá; ministers Eduardo de Pedro (Interior) and Elizabeth Gómez Alcorta (Women, Gender and Diversity); the secretary for strategic affairs, Gustavo Béliz; the secretary for communication, Juan Pablo Biondi; with Senator Jorge Taiana and Deputy Eduardo Valdés.
