The staff of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) were surprised in the afternoon of Sunday August 22, 2020, when an explosion on one of their platforms in Campeche forced them to evacuate the area.

In this regard, Pemex’s official social media account indicated around 6:21 p.m. in the afternoon that the fire at the Ku-Maloob-Zaap production asset was fully contained, located in the Sonda de Campeche.

So far, only five people with burn injuries have been reported who have been transferred to the Regional Hospital of Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche and the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS).

“An investigation into the root cause will be carried out to determine the origin of this fact”, warned the state authorities.

In addition, the company Bufete de Monitoreo de Conditions e Integridad, SA de CV, has contracted for the service of predictive maintenance and conditional maintenance of the main equipment of the AS01 and AS02 shallow water production sub-directorates, confirmed a total of two missing persons.
