Democratic Center asks Duque to militarize other parts of the country to “restore order”

President Iván Duque announced the maximum deployment of military assistance to the national police in the city of Cali and Valle del Cauca, from this Friday evening, and affirmed that in the country there can be no “islands of anarchy”.

A few minutes after the announcement, his party, the Democratic Center, called for the total deployment of the army and the police, with the militarization of the national territory in the areas where there is a serious threat against the security of citizens and that the strengthening of the police is necessary.

“A high-ranking officer, for example a colonel, responsible for each location, in charge of specific units which lift the blockades with efficiency and transparency. The party rejects any negotiation with the Unemployment Committee, negotiating with blockades and violence is to continue the destruction of democracy “, said the political party of Uribismo.

Likewise, they insist on the fact that the national government must accelerate the attainment of resources paid by the richest, to finance the fight against poverty and youth policy.

Duque said tonight that “we will act in defense of all rights and with the capacity that the Constitution and the law give us. Therefore, I want it to be absolutely clear that from tonight begins maximum deployment of military assistance to the national police in the city of Cali and the department of Valle ”.

He added that said deployment will be in charge of officers with the greatest experience, which is why he entrusted this mission to the General Álvaro Vicente Pérez Durán, commander of Southwest Joint Command number 2, which operates in this region of the country.

The head of state, who announced the measure at the end of a security council move forward to face acts of violence in the capital of the Valleyindicated that General Pérez “will receive precise and punctual instructions, not only from me, but from the general command, and will work with the government and the office of the mayor of the city of Cali”.

He indicated that, on the side of the National Police, General Hoover Penilla, deputy director general of the institution, will be in charge of this operation, which will be accompanied by General Fabián Cárdenas (director of the fight against kidnappings and extortion police), so that “we can expedite all arrest warrants for these acts of violence”.

“I would like to point out that this deployment will almost triple our capacity in less than 24 hours throughout the department, ensuring assistance in the key centers where we have witnessed acts of vandalism, violence and low-intensity urban terrorism”he explained.

7,000 men, in road clearing operations

By vehemently rejecting the roadblocks, President Duque also announced “the protection of the corridors of the department, unblocking in principle, unblocking as a measure to protect the rights of all citizens”.

The president underlined that to carry out this work, 7000 men will be deployed, including uniforms of the national navy. In this context, he underlined that “we will accelerate the prosecutions and, listen very well, we will begin a deployment of all intelligence capabilities so that the Colombian people know the links that exist, in many of these vandalism activities, with groups organized throughout the department and in the city of Cali ”.

In addition, the Head of State stressed that this deployment of the Public Force should also be in charge of “the protection of all the strategic assets of the nation and of productivity and, at the same time, of logistics in the department of Valle. “

“A communication assistance service will be deployed, where, on a daily basis, those responsible for this operation will report each action in a timely manner, so that there is total transparency on the actions of the Force Publique. Because this force acts to protect citizens and has the maximum support but, at the same time, the maximum requirement in its work ”, underlined the president.
