Denmark on alert: slaughtered minks come out …

A shocking event has happened Denmark. After the government decides to sacrifice minks for a mutation of the novel coronavirus potentially problematic for humans, the animals started to surface.

In Holstebro, in the west of the country, the corpses of a makeshift mass grave on military grounds they started to resurface because of the gas resulting from the decomposition which displaces the soil. In addition, it highlighted the conditions under which slaughtered animals were buried in risk areas (contaminated or adjacent to infected animals).

Faced with this scenario, the Danish government has said it is ready to dig up and burn the corpses of millions of hastily buried mink after being euthanized as part of the fight against covid-19.

“I had the desire to get rid of the mink and burn it from the first day I heard of it,” new Agriculture Minister Rasmus Prehn told public broadcaster TV2, adopting the position of most parties in parliament.

Authorities say there is no risk of the graves spreading the coronavirus, but residents of the area are worried about the risk of bodies contaminating drinking water and a lagoon within 200 meters.

On a related note, politicians fear that decomposing the corpses of dead animals could lead to phosphorus and nitrogen pollution and demand that the carcasses be dug up and destroyed by other means, such as by burning them.

The gases emitted could, for example, contaminate drinking water and bathing water. The agriculture minister warned that any final decision on incineration of mink could only be made with the approval of the environment agency.

The official decision taken in early November, which resulted in the death of 17 million farm animals, led to the resignation last week of the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Morgens Jensen.

Two weeks after sounding the alarm, and in the midst of a political crisis over the lack of a legal basis for the decision to euthanize them, the government came to the conclusion that this possible vaccine threat “most likely had disappeared “because no new case was detected.
