Difficult crossing of Alberto Fernández with Luis Lacalle Pou and Jair Bolsonaro for the future of Mercosur

Despite the fact that the Mercosur summit was held in a festive tone to commemorate 30 years since the bloc’s inception, the underlying theme that marked the meeting’s agenda was to discuss the proposal promoted by Brazil – which aims to lower its pricing policy in the region-, which triggered a hard cross between the president Alberto Fernandez and their peers from Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou; and Uruguay, Jair Bolsonaro.

“Obviously the Mercosur weighs, obviously its production weighs in the international concert, which must not and cannot be, is that it is a burden”, says Lacalle Pou, whose statements have not gone well in our country.

But this is not the time to talk about the past, it is up to us to be the children of this historic moment for humanity and for the bloc, ”said Lacalle Pou during his speech.

Hearing these statements, Alberto Fernández replied firmly: “If we have become a burden, I’m sorry, we didn’t want to be a burden on anyone. A load is something that causes you to be thrown from a boat and the easiest way is to get off the boat if the load is heavy ”. And he added: “For me it is an honor to be part of Mercosur.”
