There is still more than a year before the FIFA World Cup is played in Qatar. But companies in the tourism sector in this country and especially in other cities in neighboring countries – such as Kuwait and Dubai – are preparing for the arrival of visitors from all over the world, with the opening of new branches of hotel and gastronomic chains.

At the moment, hotels in the region are looking for Latin American employees to fill different positions. The local consultancy firm Pellegrini RRHH is currently seeking more than 150 jobs in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Kuwait; the Hyde hotel in Dubai; and the Siham International restaurant chain, based in Saudi Arabia, but local in different cities.

In hotels, the contracts are open-ended, while in the restaurant chain, it is a five-month contract.

“For next year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar, there is a significant search for Latin American talent for gastronomy and hotels in the region. So far we have received 300 applications and we are with an average of 50 CVs per day. There are already 60 preselected and 10 in the final selection phase, but the search is still open, ”he explained. Melisa Pellegrini, founder of the consulting firm in charge of the selection process for all of Latin America.

If applicants are eligible for employment, the company pays them a monthly salary and covers the round-trip airfare (in the case of Saudi Arabia at the end of the five-month contract and within hotels after two years or if the employee is dismissed earlier). Apartment accommodation for hotel or restaurant staff is also included, depending on the position it may be a shared room.

Other covered expenses are transportation to and from the workplace (by van), medical coverage and insurance and meals (at least one meal in the shift, it can be extended to two or three more) . The working format is 5 to 6 days a week, with one or two days off. The shift is 9 hours of work per day with a break. And 30 days of paid vacation in total.

The positions sought in hotels are restaurant supervisors, bartenders, waiters, host / hostess, concierge, telephone service, receptionists, Bell and porter, among other things, with salaries ranging from $ 395 to $ 749 per month, plus tips. In the Siham chain, meanwhile, they are looking for runners, baristas, waiters, cooks, CDP (“starting chef”) and sushi chefs. With monthly salaries ranging from $ 798 to $ 1,330.

“Qatar and neighboring countries are now the new hotspot for hotels and gastronomy and many chains are developing. It is very attractive to young people looking for work. The CVs that reach us are from people with very good profiles, with experience and some even with masters ”, added Pellegrini.

How is the selection process going?

What are the requirements?

– Finish high school

– English language

– Age 25 to 32 (may vary from 1 year more or less)

– Experience in most positions for at least 6 months or one year in similar positions. No experience is required for positions as runner or hunter

– CV in English and full body and profile photo (updated).

– Up-to-date passport as well as the necessary documents to process the visa (the cost is covered by the company).

– Vaccine: Astrazeneca, Moderna, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson (or else predisposition to strengthen one of these vaccines).

In case the interested parties wish to travel as a couple, they can do so, but in this case the visa process and tickets are the responsibility of the future employee. “It is advised that both should have a job offer in the same hotel or at least in the region, as the company provides their own accommodation and if the other person is not an employee, they will have to reside in another place than the candidate, ”they explained.
