Nick Foles was not supposed to be the quarterback under the center when the Philadelphia Eagles competed in the LII Super Bowl with a chance to win their first championship in the history of the franchise. During Eagles Week 14 against the Los Angeles Rams, Carson Wentz suffered an ACL tear. Before Wentz got hurt with the end-of-season injury, the 11-2 Eagles seemed to be favorites for the NFC. But then, the rest of their promising season became dependent on the Foles' right arm, who once considered retiring from football before returning to the Eagles.

"After spending some time with an NFL team, I wanted to retire, a year ago, I wanted to give up the NFL and I really struggled," says Foles, CBS Sports "I was not able to pick up ball for eight months, I had no love for the game and it was hard." In his first start to replace Wentz, Foles had 237 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in the Eagles' 34-29 win over the New York Giants. The Philadelphians' faith may not have been fully restored from this demonstration, but it was certainly a sign of good things to come.

After two masterful performances in the playoff games leading to the Super Bowl, Foles proved that he was not overwhelmed by the pressure of playing against Tom Brady and the Patriots of New England. On the 4th goal and goal with only 38 seconds in the second quarter, Foles was called to catch a potential touchdown pbad. He went on the occasion and did the story in the process.

Foles became the first player to throw and to catch a touchdown in a Super Bowl. It's an achievement truly worthy of being recognized as the best championship performance at this year's ESPYs.
