The police interrogate the arrested, 40 years old, who lived in the building. "The criminal thesis is the one that weighs the most," said the Paris prosecutor, Rémy Heitz, who explained that an investigation had been opened on "deliberate destruction by fire, with fatal consequences".

The woman was arrested in the street near the building and a few minutes after the start of the fire. According to the neighbors, he has a psychiatric history and is "unstable". They also indicated that before the fire, a discussion had taken place.

Interior Minister Christophe Castaner explained that the fire had originated on the second floor and that the flames had spread very rapidly. They worked about 250 firefighters, who managed to save about 50 neighbors. Several hours later, they managed to control the flames and stall the structure.

The building was built in the 1970s and presented no problems with sanitation or habitability, said Housing Minister Julien Denormandie.
