The eyes are set on Quito, until here headed by politician Mauricio Rodas, center-right.

In Guayaquil, the result seemed clearer and the social-Christian party celebrated Viteri's victory on Sunday night, despite the fact that the vote was also relatively low, at only 33.15%.

Viteri, lawyer, led the poll with 52.8%, followed by the example of the province of Guayas, Jimmy Jairala with 32.01% of the Democratic Center.

In the Andean city of Basin (South), where more than 76.4% of the votes were counted, Pedro Palacios, of Alianza Azuay, is in the lead with 28.5%, followed by Jefferson Pérez, of the Renace movement, with 22.02% and former Mayor Marcelo Cabrera, with 19.5%.

A source from the CNE told Efe that the results of the elections at the town hall will be known from 10:00 local time (at noon in Argentina) this Monday, and that the rest of the elections that took place this Sunday could take even longer.

Ecuadorians went to the polls today to elect 5,675 local authorities and their alternates between mayors, prefects, urban and rural councilors and ward council members in the country, where the electoral census comprises 13,261,994 persons eligible to vote.

The seven members and the equal number of deputies of the Council of the citizen participation (Cpcc) were also elected, which will replace the current one, of transitory nature, whose declaration has ratified a popular consultation held on February 4, 2018.

The CCPC is the body that chooses Ecuador's supervisory authorities from other state powers, such as the Attorney General or the Comptroller.

In total, more than 81,000 applications were registered with the CNE, a historic record this prevented the vote throughout the day and also the control.

Although several companies have registered to conduct exit surveys, the results were not finally revealed, which, added to the technical problems to view the statistics on the CNE website, left Ecuadorian citizens in uncertainty.
