Eleven killed by attack in a bar in Brazil

It all started yesterday afternoon in the Guamá neighborhood, located on the outskirts of the regional capital, Belem, when seven armed and hooded men arrived in the establishment aboard three vehicles and a motorcycle and opened fire on the victims whose identity they were not disclosed.

The state civilian police opened an investigation and noted that, for the time being, there was no official information about the motives or the alleged perpetrators of the crime. However, a police source told Efe that the agents were working with the possibility that it was a dispute between criminal factions for the control of drug trafficking in the region, known for its high rates of violence. Another hypothesis, according to this source, is that it could be a revenge for the death of two militarized police officers last week.

Witnesses who were on the scene at the time of the attack told the local media that the attackers fired several shots. Some of the guests in the bar managed to hide, were not hit by the bullets and were treated by ambulances at the scene.

In order to combat the strong wave of violence in the state, the Minister of Justice and Public Security of Brazil, Sérgio Moro, responded to the request of the Governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, and authorized the Hundreds of National Security Force (NPS) personnel dispatched, precisely to prevent such incidents.
