Eleven sentenced in France for harassing and threatening teenager who criticized Islam

A French court sentenced 11 out of 13 people on Wednesday accused of harassing and threatening teenage girl online who severely criticized Islam on social media and ended up changing schools and benefiting from police protection

The verdict was the first of its kind since France created a new court in Paris in January to process online crimes, including harassment and discrimination. The court sentenced the defendants to suspended sentences of four to six months in prison and fined them $ 1,770 each.

Mila, who describes himself as an atheist, was 16 when she started posting videos to Instagram and then in TIC Tac harshly criticizing Islam and its holy book, the Koran. Now 18, he testified: “I don’t like any religion, not just Islam”.

“What I want is to be considered a scourge (for those who harass) and to be prohibited from accessing social networks …“, He said. “I don’t want the victims to be blamed again“He added.

His lawyer, Richard malka, he said that Mila received some 100,000 threatening messages, including death threats, threats of rape, misogynistic messages and hate messages regarding their sexual orientation.
