A smiling Elizabeth II received this Sunday at Windsor Castle (near London) the President of the United States, Joe Biden, and his wife, Jill, as a highlight of his visit to the UK to participate in the G7 in Cornwall (south-west of England).

Coming from Carbis Bay, where the political meeting ended today, the couple arrived at 3:55 p.m. GMT by helicopter A sailor at the queen’s residence in the county Berkshire, where they were greeted by the monarch, who was waiting for them standing in a tent in the grassy ring in front of the castle.

The three seemed relaxed and within moments they exchanged smiles, in a visit which is distinguished by the absence of the tension which marked those of the former American president Donald trump, who visited the Queen, along with his wife Melania, on a state visit in 2019 and an official visit in 2018.

After meeting with Biden last Thursday, the British Prime Minister, the Conservative Boris Johnson, called relations with new White House tenant a “breath of fresh air”, who appeared to be moving to Windsor.

In June 2019, the former president and his wife took part in a more lavish state visit, in which they were entertained in style by Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, when Trump also broke the rules by playing when not due to the Sovereign.

For its part, Biden first met the Queen at an audience in 1982, when, being a senator in his country, he went to the United Kingdom to participate in a meeting of the Anglo-American group of the British Parliament.

During your current visit to this country, the Bidens already benefited from the company of the British head of state last Friday, during the reception she offered to the leaders of the Group of seven (more developed economies) at the Eden Project ecological center in Cornwall.

The couple, who started the day today by going to mass in the picturesque town of Saint-Ives, in the English South West, did not hide his illusion of knowing her personally.
