The European Union is analyzing the evolution of the criteria to allow the entry of travelers from countries outside the Union, faced with the tourist season. As it emerged, representatives of the 27 Member States assess the entry authorization of vaccinated people and widening the margins of covid cases that are taken into account to consider a certain country as safe or unsafe.

With the approach of the boreal summer season, the ambassadors of the 27 countries have approved a recommendation launched by the European Commission, the application of which is however not compulsory.

One of the central aspects of the agreement is a change in the number of covid cases that must be registered in a certain country to be considered dangerous, and in this way, it allows access to more travelers. The recommendations are expected to be validated at the ministerial level on Friday.

Currently, non-essential travel within the EU is prohibited, with the exception of a small group of countries considered safe due to their low rate of covid cases.

This list currently includes Australia, Israel, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and China, although the latter case is pending reciprocity.

Diplomats said on Wednesday that with the new deal, passengers who can demonstrate that they have been fully vaccinated could enter the European area.

For a country to be considered safe, the number of cases of covid every 100,000 inhabitants over a two week period will increase from 25 to 75.
