Ex-Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis retires | First Hall of Fame member?

Ex-Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis announced Wednesday her retirement.

Now the question becomes: is Revis a member of the Hall of Fame?

You could certainly make the argument.

After all, it was one of the best corners of his era. Revis played from 2007-17 (including 2007-12 and 2015-16 with the Jets). He has been seven times pro-Bowler and four times first-all-pro. This should certainly bring him into the conversation for the Hall of Fame member status of the first round.

(And if the Jets are willing to put aside their frustrations with Revis, he should absolutely be inducted into their Ring of Honor at the earliest possible opportunity.)

Revis, who has just turned 33 , has seen a sharp decline in his career.

He was not his former, elite elite when he returned to the Jets in 2015 – on a contract that paid him $ 39 million fully guaranteed. It was even worse in 2016, and the Jets chose to cut it after this season. It was clear that he was finished.

Revis played five games with the Chiefs in 2017, and that was all for him. Despite the gloomy end of his career, it was a remarkable race. Revis won a Super Bowl ring in 2014 with the Patriots. His career earnings: $ 124.2 million, according to spotrac.com.

In addition to being a cerebral and surgically effective halfback, Revis was a master of maximizing his value in the free agency. He cashed one last time with the Jets in 2015 – a misguided contract for them, as it turned out, but a nice deal late in the career for Revis.
