The first lady of Argentina, Fabiola Yañez, entrusted the general coordination of the Alliance of Spouses of Heads of State and Representatives (ALMA) to his Brazilian counterpart, The First Lady Michelle bolsonaro, for the period 2020/2021.

Fabiola Yañez has chaired the ALMA Alliance for a period of one year, since September 2020. She was coordinated by her partner from Paraguay, Silvana Abdo, who chaired it since its creation in 2019.

The other First Ladies of the Alliance participated in the videoconference: from Chile, Cecilia Morel; from Colombia, María Juliana Ruiz Sandoval, from Honduras, Ana García de Hernández; from Panama, Yazmín Colón de Cortizo and from the Dominican Republic, Raquel Arbaje de Abinader.

Today is a very emotional day. Exactly one year ago, I had the honor to appoint myself as General Coordinator of our Alliance of Spouses of Heads of State and Representatives, our dear ALMA. Today, I transfer the same confidence and the same responsibility that you have entrusted to me to our dear Michelle Bolsonaro, who gladly accepted to move forward as the new general coordinator ”, expressed Fabiola Yañez when reuniting with their peers.

“Throughout these 365 days, even though the pandemic has imposed a virtual working style on us, we continue to meet and work together. We generate a lot of actions that meet our noble objectives, all causes that require a strong social commitment. Our Alliance speaks of a constant collective effort to shorten distances and build bridges between our countries. We share values ​​and principles, in the pursuit of the meeting for the benefit of our countries. Always united, we continue to grow our Alliance ”, underlined the First Lady of Argentina.

During the tenure of Fabiola Yañez as General Coordinator of ALMA, actions and activities were carried out with different international organizations, where issues of great importance for the region were addressed:

  • STEM education (proposed by the PD of Panama).
  • Water, sanitation and hygiene in health facilities. Urgent action (Proposed by PD Paraguay).
  • He shared proposals for the ALMA 2021 Agenda.
  • Meeting with the first lady of Chile.
  • -Regional dialogue on “Gender and food systems” with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
  • On the occasion of the official tour in Europe, PD Fabiola Yañez, held meetings with members of FAO, where she learned about the regional campaign “Rural women, women of rights” and participated in person in the meeting organized by Scholas Ocurrentes with Su Saint, Pope Francis.
  • Participation in the launch of the United Nations Decade for the Restoration of Ecosystems UNEP.
  • Covid-19 crisis and impacts on violence against young children in the region with UNICEF.
  • “Women, roots and future” with FAO.
  • Hand hygiene for [email protected], with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

After presenting the management report to Alliance members, Fabiola Yañez he underlined: “We women weave many heroic moments in history. Today, our America needs us more united than ever, because women still play an important role in the processes of change.. The same dream unites us: the dream of a united Latin America, each one respecting his identity. We have the immense challenge of achieving it ”.
