Facebook Inc. said it has removed hundreds of pages, groups and accounts related to Iran that portrayed themselves as political groups and media organizations in order to influence the political thinking of countries around the world. .

Tuesday, Facebook has reportedly deleted 513 pages, groups and accounts on Facebook and Instagram. which appeared to target users in Egypt, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Kashmir, Kazakhstan and, in general, throughout the Middle East and North Africa. The company said it had shared information about the investigation with the US police.

Users spent around $ 15,000 for Facebook ads, published information on current events and given relevance to the content of the Iranian media on topics such as sanctions against Iran, tensions between India and Pakistan and conflicts in Syria and Yemen.

"Although we are moving forward to eliminate this abuse, as we have said before, the challenge is permanent as leaders are determined and well funded," said Nathaniel Gleicher, head of cybersecurity at Facebook, in a blog.

On the other hand, Facebook said that it had also eliminated non-genuine accounts related to Russia, Macedonia and Kosovo for having participated in spam or disseminated content such as astrology, celebrities and beauty tips.
