Social network Facebook on Thursday closed a group made up of supporters of the American president, Donald trump, who has “disturbing<< calls for violence and incites to interrupt the counting of the elections in which the president aspires to a second government.
“In keeping with the exceptional measures we are taking during this time of heightened tension, we have eliminated the ‘Stop the Steal’ group, which was creating real-world events,” explained from the platform.
The group “Stop the Theft” (of votes) had reached nearly 350,000 members this afternoon.
The closure measure comes alongside scrutiny of the November 3 election, which continues in a handful of states that will determine who will be the next President of the United States: Republican Trump or his Democratic rival Joe Biden.
“The group was organized around the delegitimization of the electoral process and we noticed disturbing calls for violence from some members of the group”, company spokespersons added, quoted by the AFP news agency.
Additionally, according to the Washington Post, he asked to go out into the streets to protect what he called the “integrity“of the vote and encouraged donations to send supporters to key states like Georgia (south-east) and Pennsylvania (northeast).
Some of the comments posted there claimed that the country was ” on the brink of civil war ” and they asked how “overthrow the government”, the newspaper replied.
Facebook has implemented a policy of banning political propaganda after the polls have closed, the aim of which is to “reduce the possibility of confusion or abuse” and that it will last about a week, they explained from the platform.
This is not the first time that a social network has taken such action with posts linked to or around Trump, who since polling day has called for control to stop and claims fraud.
Twitter censored nearly half of the Republican mogul’s posts since election night, warning against nature “misleading” comments.
