This Tuesday morning, a fatal accident occurred at the Public University of El Alto (UPEA), in Bolivia. At least 5 students died after falling from a fourth floor onto a loose railing and broke.
Three of the deaths occurred at the time and two were transferred to hospital and died in hospital. The causes of all deaths were from the same cause: severe head injury from high impact.
There were many young people, since they were in a student assembly, as reported by local newspaper El Deber. The students were protesting, there was jostling as the railing broke.
The Public University of El Alto regretted the fortuitous accident and noted that the fact is under investigation by the Bolivian police. Many people have sharply criticized the reasons why more than 60 students have been allowed to gather on one floor, when there are protocols for the coronavirus pandemic.
Henry Huanca, administrator of UPEA, made statements in this regard: “There was an assembly even though there is a resolution that prohibits assemblies, but they let this group of students in (…) there was an assembly with clashes and between two shoves, about seven classmates fell.
