That's what happened at St. Barnabas Hospital in New York, United States, where doctors made a grave mistake in confusing a 40-year-old patient admitted with another person with drug overdose and brain death.

The doctors informed Shirell Powell than his younger brother, Frederick Williams, had entered with serious life risks and brain death. They asked him if he wanted to disconnect him and the 49-year-old woman decided to end the waiting.

He called Frederick's daughters, his other sister, and coordinated the funeral. However, the medical examiner notified him that the person they had disconnected was not his brother, but another person of the same age and bearing almost the same name.
