Fernando Henrique Cardoso offered a broad front with Lula’s PT to beat Bolsonaro

In an interview published today by the newspaper O Globo, Cardoso urged all democratic forces to demonstrate against the possibility of Bolsonaro carrying out a coup, although he admitted that “it is difficult to achieve a coup. State in Brazil ”.

“I don’t know Bolsonaro, I’ve never seen him in my life, and I don’t want to, but I think he has a simplistic mentality,” said the former president and intellectual leader of the Party. Brazilian Social Democrat (PSDB), who is 90 years old.

In recent weeks, Bolsonaro has encouraged protests against the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and called for the resignation of one of its judges, and threatened to annul the 2022 presidential elections if Congress does not approve not the reforms promoted by him.

Cardoso said that “even if he wanted to it is difficult to strike a blow in Brazil” and added that if Bolsonaro “has this idea, he will not succeed”.

However, he believes in the convenience ofe form a front which opposes this possibility and is even favorable to the participation of the PSDB in the demonstrations organized by the left forces, a question on which it does not have the agreement of the other social democratic leaders.

Likewise, Cardoso said that this “broad front” should include the Workers’ Party (PT) of his successor in government, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, because this force “is not intrinsically against democracy” and “never has been”.

Lula is the frontrunner to win the presidential elections of 2022, in which Bolsonaro aspires to be re-elected, according to the latest polls of intent to vote.
