The Venezuelan Defense Ministry reported on Monday that two soldiers died and 32 suspected insurgents were arrested after clashes near the border with Colombia against “irregular armed groups” from the neighboring country.

The statement of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) reported that the events occurred in the sector of La Coromoto, Rafael Urdaneta parish of the municipality of José Antonio Páez, state of Apure.

According to the report, “One of the leaders known as “El Nando” was neutralized, 32 subjects were captured, six camps were destroyed, and weapons, ammunition, explosives, war material, vehicles and drugs were seized.“.

In addition, he said that “several” soldiers were injured and that Major Edward Ramón Corobo Segovia and First Lieutenant Yonathan Miguel Duart had died.
