It is not certain that Notre Dame Cathedral can be saved despite the mobilization of 400 firefighters and the use of 10 pipes, said Secretary of the Interior, Laurent Nuñez..

"We do not know if we can stop the spread in the north tower, if it collapses, I let them imagine the extent of the damage," said Nuñez, accompanied by General Jean-Claude Gallet, commander firefighters from Paris.

The fire would be "potentially linked" to the renovation of the building, according to sources of firefighters quoted by French television BFMTV.

Security forces have established a security perimeter around the cathedral and expelled the bridges that connect the island of La Cité where the temple is located to the rest of the city. Some 400 firefighters work on the site to control the incident.

This cathedral is one of the most emblematic buildings of the French capital. It began to be built in 1163 and was completed in 1345. It is located on the Ile de la Cité, on the Seine.
