CITY OF VATICAN – Pope Francis today said he was stuck in a Vatican elevator for 25 minutes and had to be rescued by firefighters.

Francisco apologized to the faithful of St. Peter's Square for their arrival seven minutes late, because of his usual meeting with the crowd at noon.

In an apparent reference to electric current, Francisco said that a "voltage drop" had blocked the elevator. Vatican firefighters rescued him, he said, asking people present to applaud the rescuers in the square.
