Five countries in South America have called for reform of the inter-American human rights system

Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay and Chile called for reforms of the inter-American human rights system (SIDH) to face the challenges of the 21st century, according to a document.

The declaration stresses "the crucial importance of the principle of subsidiarity as a basis for the division of powers of the inter-American system"and ask the States and bodies of the system that badume "their own responsibilities for the promotion and protection of rights in the region, without invading the areas of competence of each.

They also point out that IAHRS "strictly apply the sources of international law in the resolution of cases submitted to their knowledge" and the "need to the forms of reparation have a proportionality due and to respect the constitutional and legal orders of these states ".

The IACHR, which confirmed receipt of the declaration of these five countries, indicated that "He will examine the subject at his next sessions."
