For the third day in a row, Brazil recorded more than 2,200 deaths from the coronavirus

Brazil, the current global epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic, recorded 2,216 new deaths from covid in the past 24 hours, which followed a chain three days in a row with more than 2,200 victims. Thus, it has accumulated 275,105 deaths since the start of the health crisis.

This is the third highest number of deaths from the virus in one day since the start of the pandemic, after the 2,286 recorded on Wednesday and the 2,233 on Thursday, with which the average of last week’s deaths increased this Friday to reach the record of 1,762 per day, according to the bulletin published by the Department of Health.

According to ministry data, Brazil released on Friday 85,663 new infections of covid, the second highest number of daily cases since the start of the pandemic, topped only 87,840 on January 7. With these figures, it is already nearly 11.4 million infected.

The high averages of recent days confirm Brazil as the second country with the highest number of coronavirus deaths in the world, surpassed only by the United States, and the third in number of infections, behind the United States and the ‘India.

Brazil is currently undergoing a new wave of pandemic, more virulent and deadly, caused in part by the circulation of new strains of the virus, among which the Brazilian variant originating in the Amazon and which, according to the researchers, it is three times more contagious than the original.

It is scientists from this country who have discovered in the last hours a new strain of the coronavirus, which is the third mutation to be recorded there.

The discovery was reported on Friday in a joint communication between five institutions coordinated by the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing (LNCC). Simultaneously, the same mutation was described in an independent study conducted by researchers from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), confirms O Globo.

The new variant of Covid-19 is said to have appeared in August and has already spread to states in all regions of Brazil except the Midwest.

This mutation has a different origin from the Brazilian P1 and P2 strains, which are ringing alarm bells around the world, especially the former.

Brazil, with its 210 million inhabitants, has just under 3% of the world’s population, but accumulates 10.3% of coronavirus deaths worldwide and 9.5% of the total infected.
