A man in France burned his wife alive in a horrific attack that This included a chase down the street, shooting the woman’s legs, spraying her with gasoline and setting her on fire while she was still alive.

The crashed event happened in broad daylight on Tuesday, French police said on Wednesday in the affluent Marignac district near Bordeaux airport in southwest France.

The murdered woman was 31 and the mother of three young children. She was chased down the street by her 44-year-old husband, who shot her in the legs before spraying her with flammable liquid and setting her on fire.

“The man fired several shots at the woman as she fled down a street, hitting her in the legs. After he collapsed, he set on fire ”, said the police.

According to the digital portal Actu17, the man He had already been sentenced in 2020 for domestic violence by the Bordeaux Criminal Court to 18 months in prison, nine of which were exempt from compliance.

In this first incident, the victim was still his wife, but although they separated after the trial, at the time of the second fatal attack the man was still living in the house. His three children also lived there, 3 years, 7 years and 11 years, who were in the custody of the murdered mother.

The man was arrested half an hour after the murder in the neighboring district of Pessac, armed with a pistol, a pellet gun and a holster, said the Bordeaux prosecutor’s office. He is suspected of both the murder of his wife and of having started a fire which damaged his house, located nearby.

The couple’s children were not at home at the time of the attack, the prosecutor’s office said, adding that they were receiving trauma counseling.

The issue of domestic violence and murders is not new in France, on the contrary, in 2019 it sparked a series of protests across the country. Activists complained that women who tried to report violent partners to the police were often rejected and revictimized by law enforcement. That year, 146 women were murdered by their spouse or partner., an increase of 21 percent over the previous year.

After a protest, the government introduced the use of electronic bracelets to alert victims when their attackers are nearby. In 2020, the number of murders fell to 90.
