The use of ibuprofen to fight certain infections has increased in recent decades and is currently one of the best-selling broad-spectrum drugs in the world.
Recently, its consumption and its side effects have been monitored by the
National Agency for the Safety of Medicines (ANSM, for its acronym in French) and the conclusions triggered the alarm.
According to the newspaper
El País, the ANSM yesterday published a set of recommendations recommending, among other things, to give priority to paracetamol against ibuprofen in case of pain or fever. In addition, the entity is asking the European authorities to conduct a thorough study on the drug.
The survey conducted by the ANSM makes it possible to deduce that
The use of ibuprofen can be risky when it is used to treat infections such as tonsillitis, nasopharyngitis, otitis, cough, infection pulmonary, certain skin lesions and chickenpox.
According to the conclusions of the research centers of Tours and Marseille, responsible for conducting the study last June, there are many infections, including those caused by streptococci, which could be aggravated by the intake of this drug.
These complications were observed after very short periods of treatment (two to three days) after administration (or self-medication use) of ibuprofen or ketoprofen (also badyzed) for the treatment of fever, skin problems inflammatory, respiratory or skin of the nose, ears and throat.
The use of ibuprofen was also linked to cardiac, intestinal and vascular diseases.
Another ANSM recommendation is to use the "minimum effective dose, of the shortest duration", to stop the treatment as soon as the symptoms disappear and not to prolong it for more than three days in case of fever or fever. more than five days in case of pain.
Previous studies have focused on the doses administered, which they recommended to reduce. Instead of 600, it is considered that with 400 milligrams, this is enough.
