GCI welcomes Venezuelan politicians' decision to resume dialogue in Oslo

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The International Contact Group on Venezuela celebrated the news that the government and the opposition would meet again for a new round of negotiations in Oslo.

"The international contact group [GCI] welcomes the continuation of the negotiation process facilitated by Norway among Venezuelan political actors. The GCI reaffirms its commitment to a political, peaceful and democratic solution through free and fair elections and is ready to support ongoing efforts, where appropriate, "said the European External Action Service.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said earlier that representatives of Venezuela's main political forces had decided to return to Oslo next week to continue the dialogue process. The new meeting was also confirmed by Caracas.

Last week, the two delegations held an exploratory meeting in Oslo, representing the first rapprochement between the government and the Venezuelan opposition since the last political crisis, which began in January after the inauguration of the president. Nicolás Maduro for the period 2019-2025.
