The 11-year-old Belgian Laurent Simons, known for his high intellectual capacity and his plans to complete a university degree in nine months, instead of three years he obtained his bachelor’s degree in physics at the University of Antwerp with an average of nine out of ten and in one course, as had been fixed.

The young man assured that he had already completed his career in physics and had done so with honors, obtaining a diploma with mention “cum laude” in less than a year, while this diploma generally requires a minimum of three years, and, he pointed out to the Dutch agency ANP that he will continue in the same Flemish university to do a master’s degree in physics, of which “he even finished certain subjects”.

Simons started primary school at the age of 4 and entered the equivalent of a secondary institute, the Sint-Jozef Humaniora in Bruges, with only six years old, completing this stage in 18 months, when that is. obtained in eight years, before entering the university with 9 years.

He doesn’t know how long it will take him to complete his master’s degree now, but he assures us that He does it not to break a record, but to “achieve his goal”, which is “to be able to replace as many parts of the body as possible with manufactured organs”, ensures.

The little boy also made headlines two years ago, when a dispute between his parents and TU Eindhoven University this forced him to abandon his studies in electrical engineering in the Netherlands.

The young man then explained that after promising that he would be able to graduate before his tenth birthday, on December 26, 2019, the Dutch university sent him an email in which he indicated that teachers need to adjust the schedule. learning so he could graduate in mid-2020, nine months after his target.

As an argument, the Dutch university center assured that the young man needed more time to develop the skills which belong to the final phase of the study, such as “comprehension, creativity and critical analysis”, and that the opposite would have been “a excessive pressure ”on this boy, who was only nine at the time.

The parents then immediately entered into negotiations with different universities to send their son to finish his bachelor’s degree, with Israel and the United States as two of the preferred destinations, but he ultimately chose Antwerp.

Laurent is not the first child to achieve a feat like this: In 1994, the American Michael Kearney graduated at the age of 10 from the University of Southern Alabama, where he studied anthropology and was distinguished by the “World Guinness Record” to the youngest university graduate.
