Internet search engine Google will celebrate Spanish Language Day this Friday of the United Nations with a “doodle” dedicated to the letter “ñ”, whose origins in this language date back to the 12th century.

The “doodle”, a temporary modification of the Google logo on the main page of the search engine, was created especially for the occasion by the Portuguese graphic designer and illustrator Min, who lives in Barcelona.

In this appear the letters of Google in white on a big blue “ñ”.

“Being the only letter of the Spanish alphabet to originate in Spain, the ‘ñ’ is not only a letter, but also a representation of Hispanic heritage and identity.”Mountain View (California, United States) said in a statement.

The origins of the “ñ” date back to the 12th century, when medieval scribes hand-copied Latin texts and thought of combining the sounds into a single spelling to save time and space, which made the digraph “pass through” nn ”to be represented with the“ ñ ”.

The letter was officially recognized by the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy in 1803 and almost two centuries later, in 1993, the Spanish Congress passed a law protecting its inclusion on computer keyboards.

Then another child appeared who, next to this tree, planted a new seed which also became a huge tree. This scene was repeated successively until we saw how, thanks to small individual actions, it was possible to populate the space of a forest.
