With 52.5% of the vote, Guillermo Lasso won the presidency of Ecuador
The referent of anti-correism, the candidate of the alliance of the right and the Social-Christian Party Guillermo Lasso, won the presidential ballot against the correista Andrs Arauz, according to almost all of the official vote.
With nearly 97% scrutinized, Lasso won with 52.52% of the vote against 47.48% for Arauz, according to the website of the National Electoral Council (CNE). So far, the observed minutes were 4.5%, a figure lower than that of the first round.
After long delays in the first round, the CNE had promised to deliver the final results on election night.
Guillaume Long, campaign spokesperson for candidate Correista and winner of the first presidential round, Andrs Arauz, had been confident hours earlier that they could overturn the election when the votes from the country’s coast, a region traditionally the most close movement.
However, this never happened in an official review and the advantage, while small, remained.
