Haitian police arrested a security guard for President Moise for his role in the assassination

The Haitian National Police announced on Monday the arrest of President Jovenel Moise’s security coordinator in connection with the investigation into the president’s assassination on July 7.

Division commissioner Jean Laguel Civil is imprisoned in a prison in Delmas, a town near Port-au-Prince.

He is suspected of being involved in the plot that led to Moise’s death at his home at the hands of an armed commando team.

“I confirm that Jean Laguel Civil was arrested by the police on Monday as part of the investigation into the assassination of President Jovenel Moise”, said to AFP the spokesperson for the police institution, Marie Michelle Verrier.

The government commissioner of Port-au-Prince, Me Bed-ford Claude, had already asked the migration services to ban the departure of four Haitian national police officers, responsible for the security of the assassinated president.

In addition to Jean Laguel Civil, this is Commissioner Dimitri Hérard, head of the General Security Unit of the National Palace (USGPN); Commissioner Léandre Pierre Osman, head of the Presidential Security Unit (USP); and Chief Inspector Amazan Paul Eddy, leader of the Cat Team, an elite unit tasked with protecting the President.

Also as part of the investigation into the assassination, the police issued a search notice on Monday against Wendelle Coq Thélot, judge at the Court of Cassation, the highest judicial body in the country. The magistrate had been dismissed by President Moise.

The new Haitian Prime Minister, Ariel Henry, has promised to bring the president’s killers to justice.

So far, Haitian police have arrested around 20 mercenaries, most of them Colombians, and claim to have uncovered a plot organized by a group of Haitians with foreign ties, but many questions remain unanswered .

Lague and other presidential security officials were barred from leaving the country while the assassination investigation continued, ‘Juno 7’ reports.

Police have currently arrested around 30 people, including 18 of Colombian nationality and five Americans of Haitian descent, who allegedly impersonated DEA agents in the assault.
