The prosecutor’s office requested the death sentence for a mom accused of killing her 16-month-old adopted daughter in October last year, in South Korea.
The baby, adopted in February 2020, died of severe abdominal injuries and internal bleeding.
After the minor’s death, the mother said that the baby’s injuries were due to an accidental fall.
Meanwhile, medical experts have ruled out the possibility, insisting that this type of injury can only result from the use of external force.
Identified only by his last name, Jang, the mother was charged with homicide and child abuse resulting in death, while the adoptive parent faces charges of child abuse and neglect.
For him, the prosecution asked for 7 and a half years in prison. The verdict will be released on May 14.
In South Korea, the last execution took place in 1997, although around 60 people received this sentence, which was never carried out.
