He didn’t pay the mason and he let the house down

A man from Leicester, UK discovered in the most brutal way that you should never have a money dispute with a contractor when your repairman left her half demolished for debt.

“Unfortunately, I picked the worst contractor,” the 40-year-old man who spoke to UK Leicester Mercury said this week.

The house in question is located in a wooded area of Leicester called Stoneygate and was purchased for around £ 540,000 (around US $ 761,805) in 2020. The contractor began work in February this year.

“We wanted to do a two-story extension, a new roof, the electrical connection and everything to be sustainable,” said the injured customer. Her dream of having a home for her family of six collapsed during her vacation, which is still ongoing.

According to the man, who did not wish to be named, he refused to pay the contractor 3,500 pounds. He chose to go on vacation about 300 kilometers from the city and left his house full of scaffolding in the hands of the workers.

The amount owed is a trifle next to the price of real estate, but there seems to be a question of principle. After refusing to pay, the man learned that the scaffolding company had removed the structures and his house was left as if bombs had again been dropped in the UK.

But someone from a house next door to that of the injured client assured local media that “people have noticed that the masons have started removing things (from the property) and demolishing what they have built.”

“The neighbors are very unhappy with the appearance of the house and the fact that they have ruined the sidewalk,” the source added.

The owner of the house, still on holiday outside the UK, told LeicestershireLive he would contact authorities in Leicester about the asphalt problem in front of his crumbling house.

The man even tried to raise the dispute with the police but they told him that they were not taking such complaints because it is a dispute and not a crime.
