Vincent LambertThe French, who was tetraplegic and vegetative for more than a decade, died Thursday, nine days after the medical team at the Reims hospital launched the protocol to remove nutrition and hydration artificial, reported the relatives.
The man, who died in the early hours of Argentina, has become in France a symbol of the debate about dignified death and continues to face his own family. Because while their parents, fervent Catholics, were fighting to continue to be treated, their wife and their legal guardian, Rachel Lambert, was contrary to this therapeutic decision.
After years of judicial battle before the absence of a living will that reflects his will, the parents, Viviane and Pierre, had accepted this Monday his death as a fatality and announced that they would not present new resources.
"The time has come for the family to come together, we need to learn from this case, which has sometimes been obscene at the judicial level, and the judicial incoherence has been exhausting for the whole world.", the nephew's lawyer indicated in the "BFM TV" channel, Gérard Chemla.
Lambert, a 42 year old nurse, was a victim of a road accident in 2008, which left him tetraplegic and totally dependent. In 2011, doctors ruled out any possibility of improvement and, in 2014, their condition was clbadified as vegetative.
The medical team began the process of withdrawing treatment on July 2, after the Supreme Court reopened the proceedings by overturning an earlier decision of the Court of Appeal and removing the possibility of new appeals.

The parents' decision not to present new legal arguments in an attempt to resume treatment does not, however, mean that the battle is over. The lawyer Jean Paillot, parents' representative, said in a statement released Monday by the television channel "France Info" that, when the time comes, "Those responsible for the death of Vincent Lambert" should "report".
Indeed, the lawyer said that last Friday, they had filed a complaint against the doctor with the parquet of Reims. Vincent Sánchezand his palliative care team, for "attempted murder."
