They say every house is a world and Colin Steer knows it very well. This 70-year-old grandfather from Plymouth, England, discovered a medieval well 34 years ago in the living room of his house and over time he has found objects of yesteryear there.

The last one he found was a 1725 coin and before, for example, he had encountered a sword.

Steer moved into his house in 1988. Around this time, as he was redecorating, he realized that there was something wrong with the floor. From the start he knew it was an old Victorian building dating back to 1895 and this led him to investigate what was going on.

“We were decorating a bit and I was replacing the floor joists when I noticed the floor was sagging near our front bedroom window,” Steer told the Daily Mail.

At that moment, the man thought that maybe someone had buried a person there or that it was an abyss and he wanted to remove his doubts: decided to dig in and find out for himself.

Colin started the excavations in the late 80s, but on the advice of his wife Vanessa, he plugged the hole because it was a danger to the boys who lived in their house.

In 2012, when he retired, resumed his research and continued to dig. Currently, the well has five meters Deep. The first object he found – the sword – appeared five feet away.

Steer began to realize that the hole could have been there since medieval times due to the plans of the house and the artifacts he discovered.

Although he tried, he couldn’t find anything concrete. “Due to its size, we guessed that it could have been used to feed animals or for two or three families,” he reflected after years of analyzing the well.

“It looks like an old peasant combat weapon because it appears to be made of pieces of metal beaten together,” he commented of the homemade sword.

Colin plans to continue digging as he believes there is still between one and two meters of the pit. He knows that deep down there is water and for this reason he does not continue his detective work. Going down to the liquid means that what you have discovered so far is wet.

“I don’t think my wife would be very interested if she had it all over our living room. Although she also finds the whole set very interesting, ”said the grandfather.

However, as soon as he gets the green light from Vanessa, he will try to take advantage of his discovery. He says he will test the water for bacteria and that if it is in good condition, will sell it in bottles.

Currently, the well is covered with a Perspex sheet and a small door to prevent someone from getting lost in it.
