A one-year-old baby has died after spending several hours in the sun inside a car.

The tragic episode occurred in Harris County, Texas, United States.

According to the local sheriff, the mother took her two other children, aged 5 and 3, to the nursery and left the baby inside the vehicle.

“He told us that he brought the one-year-old baby back with the intention of leaving her later after she was shopping,” Sheriff Thomas Gilliland said.

According to the police chief, the woman “at one point, between arriving at her home and entering, was distracted and did not return to pick up the girl, so she remained inside the vehicle”.

At that time, the woman went to the gym, and then in another car, she returned to the nursery to pick up her other children.

“When he went to pick up his 5 and 3 year old son, he said, ‘Where’s my baby?’ Said the sheriff.

“They said, ‘She’s not here.’ The mother replied, “I did it, I brought my baby here” and they said, “No, you didn’t”. The daycare supervisor therefore followed her to her home and that is when the sadly deceased girl was discovered in the vehicle, ”the sheriff reported.

The baby was found on the back floor of the vehicle, parked next to the family home.
