For nine years, Morgan Hellquist attended the clinic of her gynecologist Morris Wortman., in Rochester, New York, for exams and procedures without knowing who her biological father was. The intervention was performed by the same doctor, who also looked after her mother. The family always believed that the sperm had been donated by a medical student.
However, Hellquist became suspicious of the doctor during a visit last April due to a strange attitude he had. The gynecologist, who had known her from childhood, asked her to remove her mask and called his wife to see the physical resemblance they had, according to the lawsuit cited by media. “You are a good girl, really a good girl“, he told him.
This fact led Hellquist to discover that he was her biological father and later, that she might not be the only one in this situation. The woman has located at least six other people who are believed to be the doctor’s children, which could be “a serial sperm donor”. Between late 1983 and January 1985, Wortman billed Hellquist’s mother $ 50 for each attempted insemination, the Daily Mail reported.
After the date in April, the young woman underwent a DNA test which revealed that she was the biological daughter, according to the lawsuit filed in the Supreme Court of Monroe against the gynecologist and the Rochester Menstrual Disorders Center, where he practiced. .
According to the Daily Mail, whenever Hellquist found a new half-brother, “She suffered from anxiety, migraines, shock and confusion, hopelessness, stress and other physical manifestations upon learning that her father had been a serial sperm donor.”
Hellquist’s mother saw the doctor after her husband Gary Levey was hit by a drunk driver and paralyzed from the waist down. When she was a child, her parents told her how she was conceived, so in high school she tried to find out who her biological father was, but Wortman assured her that he did not have medical records from that time.
At the age of 26, she again sought the doctor’s help when she suffered from menstrual bleeding. Wortman then became her gynecologist, and from 2012 to 2021 performed vaginal exams and other procedures.
Now, for this reason, Hellquist is asking for financial compensation for the damage. The suffering caused by his father and his doctor is compared, according to the trial, to “Experienced by survivors of sexual abuse and incest”.
