“He told me he cared about important people”: wife of a former Colombian soldier killed in Haiti

The assassination of the President of Haiti, Jovenel Moise, in the early hours of Wednesday July 7, prompted a massive investigation into the causes, perpetrators and chronology of events. Colombia is not immune since, according to information provided by the Haitian authorities, and which was subsequently confirmed by Defense Minister Diego Molano, 26 of the 28 alleged perpetrators are Colombians.

“It was a commando group of 28 attackers, including 26 Colombians. We intercepted 15 Colombians and the two Americans of Haitian origin. Three Colombians have died, four have been arrested and eight others are on the run. The weapons and materials used by the thugs were recovered ”, announced a few days ago Léon Charles, Director General of the Haitian Police. The controversy escalated when it became known that retired members of the Colombian military forces were among this group of people involved.

This Monday, July 12, the wife of the first sergeant (r) of the army Mauricio Javier Romero, one of the deceased ex-soldiers, in dialogue with Semana spoke of the events and gave details on the office of his married couple .

The woman identified as Giovanna Arelis Romero Dussan said Romero was a very reserved person in his professional life and only told her that he was responsible for looking after important people in the country.

Regarding those allegedly involved of Colombian nationality, the national government at a meeting held on Monday asked the Haitian authorities to protect the detainees, in addition to the repatriation of the bodies of others who died in the midst of the events.

For its part, Vice-Chancellor Francisco Echeverry, He underlined in dialogue with Blu Radio that during the meeting, which ended at noon, the Haitian ambassador in Bogotá declared that he will manage the petitions presented with his government.
