A man went accidentally killed by his stepfather after traveling 7,000 kilometers from Norway to the United States to attend his birthday. The victim, identified as Christopher Bergan, hidden behind a bush at his home around midnight with the idea of giving him a surprise. However, Richard Dennis, 62, mistook him for a thief and shot him with a gun.

According to the Florida police, it all started when Bergan crossed the fence of the house, slipped into the yard and positioned himself behind a factory to surprise his father-in-law.

Upon hearing the noises inside his property, Dennis went out to check the armed perimeter of a gun and, seeing that someone jumped from behind a bush, he pulled the heart and killed him instantly.

Still astonished by the fact, after hours later, suspecting someone else having crossed the fence surrounding the house, he decided to go out with his gun for safety. However, when he saw that a person was jumping abruptly towards him in the middle of the night, reacted instinctively and shot him before he could realize that it was his son-in-law.

In this regard, Bob Johnson, sheriff of Santa Rosa County, summed up: "I think it was a horrible accident that should never have happened."
