.A woman who climbed the Statue of Liberty was arrested Wednesday after a lengthy negotiation with the police. He said that he went to the iconic North American monument to protest the separation of migrant families that Donald Trump's administration performs.
For nearly two hours, the woman put the officers on hold, baduring them that she would not come down that "all the children are released," according to CNN. Eventually, agents with ropes and climbing gear managed to catch him. To stop him, they tied him a harness and ropes in order to knock him out.
During her protest, the woman walked from one side to the other across the sheets of the statue dress before sitting down. Other demonstrators, who were standing downstairs, were holding a banner on the balustrade at the base of the monument. According to Jerry Willis of the National Park Service, the island of Liberty was evacuated while she was trying to bring down the woman.
The woman is affiliated with the protest group Rise and Resist, told CNN Martin Joseph Quinn, an organizer of the group. As they claimed, their ascent was not part of the event scheduled for Wednesday in the statue. "It went up without our knowledge, it was not part of our action, we are deeply concerned about your safety," they said of the organization. Rise and Resist is a group of anti-Trump political activists based in New York, according to its website.
