Malika Chalhy, a 22 year old girl who is lesbian decided to share her sexual orientation with her family in early 2021. The young woman wrote a letter to her family to tell them that she was dating and that she was very much in love.

But the illusion that his family would accept him collapsed in a second, the reaction his parents never expected and his case went viral in Italy.

Chalhy is from Castelfiorentino, a town in the city of Florence, Italy. On April 9, the young woman decided to denounce her mother for having driven her out of her home because of her sexual orientation. She also said that her family did not let her take her clothes or personal belongings.

The complaint was filed via digital media FanPage, the young woman said: “I was afraid that they would not take it well, but I never thought that they would come to tell me certain things and that they would threaten me with death”. He also recounted the horrible words his mother said in a WhatsApp audio: “I wish you a tumor. You are the ruin of the family, better a drug addict than a lesbian ”.

However, the young woman decided to turn her difficult situation into a fight to defend the LGTBI community in Italy, thus becoming a reference to it. The young woman received the support of the mayor of Castelfiorentino, Alessio Falorno and also received support through funds raised on the GoFunMe crowdfunding platform.

In this sense, a bill has gained momentum in the Italian Parliament which it would be the first Law against homophobia in the country, at the end of April, it was sent to the Senate.
