More and more details are known about the horrific crime committed by Jhon Jairo Restrepo, the man who on April 4 decided to use an ax to take the life of his ex-partner, Carolina Ayola Hernández; and his 15 month old son, Richard Maximiliano Restrepo Ayola, in the village of La Tablaza in the municipality of La Estrella, Antioquia.

According to a report by El Tiempo newspaper, the events recorded that Sunday evening were first covered up by the music that Restrepo played at full volume. The man then took the ax to deliver a fatal blow to the head of the sleeping woman. This, authorities point out, was recorded on the cell phone of the attacker, who worked as a transport assistant.

Later, Restrepo went out to pick up little Richard, who was in the care of a few relatives. Returning home, the 32-year-old repeated the same process, with another blunt object., causing the immediate death of the minor. He did so, according to reports, so as not to leave it in the hands of third parties once Carolina’s death was known.

Regarding his motives, the Medellín Q’Hubo newspaper consulted one of the investigators in charge of the process, who pointed out that Restrepo decided to kill the 18-year-old after seeing her with someone else in what would be a romantic situation, at least a month ago.

According to the file, the murderer used his partner’s blood to write disgusting messages on his body and words of regret on the walls of the house. He also sent similar messages to his mother, who, fearing the worst, went to the property where he found Carolina’s naked and lifeless body. Without seeing little Richard, he immediately went out to alert the officers of the La Tablaza police station.

The news sparked all kinds of attacks on Restrepo’s home and relatives, which in turn triggered the reaction of the mayor of La Estrella, Juan Sebastián Abad, who demanded that justice not be taken in hand, let alone retaliation against people who are not directly guilty of the crime.

The search for Restrepo did not last long. In fact, it ended in a wooded area in the municipality of Caldas, where it was found by the national police. “With several wounds produced with a knife which he himself allegedly caused to kill his life”, according to a report from the attorney general’s office.

After treating his injuries at a medical center, Restrepo was brought before a Caldas safeguards judge, who ordered him to be insured in a prison for the crimes of aggravated femicide and aggravated homicide. Both charges were accepted by the man.
