Although the disease was discovered in 1981, it was not until 1983 that HIV-positive patients were started in Mexico. Since that date, from 1983 to 2007, in San Luis Potosí, 126 patients have been registered.
This number increased year by year and peaked in 2017, when 180 new cases were closed.
In SLP, the majority of patients are men
Of the 1,125 positive cases recorded in San Luis Potosí, 866 involved men and 259 women.
By age, adults aged 30 to 34 have the most infections, followed by adults aged 25 to 29.
The perinatal contagion emerges from these statistics which, in 2018, now total 15 patients nationwide.
