Bryce Harper won the 2018 Home Run Derby on his home ground in the final round. Here's how the Nationals outfielder did it.

No. 2 Bryce Harper vs. No. 5 Kyle Schwarber

Kyle Schwarber put a good pace with 18 in turn final, including one in overtime. Schwarber ends his night with 55 homers in three rounds, the second highest total in the history of the Derby. It seemed too much for Harper, but he rallied with nine home runs in the last minute to equalize Schwarber, then snapped a stop in overtime to win the trophy. Max Muncy ran out of gas in the second round and finished with 12, tied in the last round of the night. It was an easy number to beat for Harper, with 1:11 remaining. Harper hits home five times in a row at one point

No. 5 Kyle Schwarber vs. No. 8 Rhys Hoskins

Rhys Hoskins tied the best total in the first round with 17, then quickly opened the second round with better performance. He beat 19 home homers in four minutes, and also won the 30-second bonus with two long shots. He nailed on one more for the first round of the night 20.

Kyle Schwarber had a huge number to beat, and he did it . Like Hoskins, Schwarber won the 30-second bonus, but ended up not needing it. He dominated his last swing as time pbaded for a buzzer beating walk-off for the Cubs fielder. Schwarber is in the final

It was just the fifth and sixth rounds of 20 or more circuits in 52 innings since this new synchronized format was introduced in 2015.

No. 2 Freddie Freeman

Freddie Freeman set the number with 12 homers, but that was tied for the least so far in the first round. Bryce Harper, in his original park, had the crowd behind him, and they lavished praise that suited a national treasure. No. 4 Alex Bregman c. No. 5 Kyle Schwarber

Schwarber was the first left-handed batcher in the competition and was also the first hitter to win the 30-second bonus by hitting two shots at least 440 feet. Schwarber had 14 home runs in four minutes, then added two more in his extra 30 seconds, giving Bregman a big 16 to shoot.

The 2018 Home Run Derby is here, with eight players competing in three rounds at the Nationals Park in Washington DC (8 pm HE, ESPN).

Each round presents a competition in face-to-face timed rounds. Each player has four minutes to touch as many home runs as possible, with a 30 second bonus if the player touches two home runs of at least 440 feet. Bryce Harper of the National Team of Washington National Championships is the only participant with a Home Run Derby experience, having participated in the event in 2013.
