Homicides in Mexico are recovering historically in the first four months of the year

On Monday, the Executive Secretariat of the National System of Public Security (SESNSP) revealed the figures of the homicides registered in April, which show that the the rate of violence in Mexico has increased in the first quarter of this year, compared to 2018.

Although April has been up to now the month with the fewer murders, the decline is not large enough to deviate from the trend, which puts 2019 as the most violent year in the country's history since the beginning of the statistical surveys in 1997.

Indeed, the month of April had fewer intentional homicides compared to 2018recording 2,716. According to the Executive Secretariat, this represents a reduction of 4.5% over the previous month and 1.7% compared to April of the previous year. However, compared to 2017, crime increased by 24.3% and even 64.7% compared to 2016.

During this month, on average 93.06 people are killed every day, the lowest figure since the beginning of Tabasco's mandate. But between 11,221 intentional killings were recorded between January and April; the sum makes it the most violent four-month period in the history of Mexico.

In addition, data from the SESNSP showed that the first five months of government of López Obrador A total of 14,510 voluntary homicides were recorded.

Criminal incidence data showed that the States where crime is increasing they were Tabasco, with a growth of 75.5%; New Lionwith 67.7%; Quintana Roowith 53.2%; Sonorawith 51.1%; and Morelos, with a rebound of 41.2%.

Guanajuato it remained the country's most violent state, with 290 murders. It was followed by the State of Mexico, with 256; and Jalisco, with 220. Chihuahua, Veracruz and Guerrero they were also the places with the most murders. Colima, on the other hand, continues to be the state with the highest rate of intentional homicides per 100,000 population at 26.45.

According to reports, during these first 4 months of the year have been reported 294 feminicides, 57 of which with a firearm and 57 with a knife. Sure abducted peoplewe have a report of 463 victims.

Regardless, the number of Femicide also decreased by 11.1% compared to the previous month, from 81 victims in March to 72 in April.

Resumption of violence in Mexico

The wave of violence that has hit the country in recent months has led various organizations and individuals to judgeor inefficient measures that the current president puts in place to counter this situation.

To reduce the signs of violence and insecurity, López Obrador's main commitment is to National Guard, a new public security corps composed of police and military.

Before the constant questions, the President badured that the the situation of violence and insecurity has been "controlled". However, April would be the first month in which there really would have been decrease in the rate of homicides nationwide.
