The informal factory was in the basement of a dwelling house of the Branes II district and around 40 people worked, of which a dozen were saved and 24 others died this morning, following the flooding of the premises after the rains recorded in the early hours of Monday.

An electrical short circuit in the flooded illegal factory left the workers dead.

All the survivors were admitted to the Tangier regional hospital, and the authorities they did not rule out that more workers were trapped in the building, so the rescue operation continued.

According to local media, the premises did not meet the safety requirements of the clothing workshops and the authorities announced the opening of an investigation to clarify the facts.

Heavy rains that fell across the northern region of Morocco caused flooding in all of the city’s slums.
